Here are a few of the questions we get from our clients. If you have any questions you can give us a call or reply to this post. We have found that most purchasers are very knowledgeable and take a lot into consideration. You even ask questions we couldn’t imagine. Just like anything else no question is a stupid question. So if there is anything else you need answered fire away.
Question: Can you really put 600-800lbs on an individual shelf? Yes. However, you can’t just go and throw 800lbs right in the middle of the shelf. Quality wire shelves have additional truss for heavy loads. When load capacities are given for wire shelves this is based on an evenly distributed shelf. Please keep this in mind when deciding your wire shelf needs.
Question: Do the posts stick out from the unit? How do the posts work? The posts are incorporated into the unit. The posts go through the shelf collar and the clips lock the wire shelf into place. Therefore the posts do not stick out.
Question: What does NSF mean? NSF stands for the National Sanitation Foundation. NSF is not a brand. It is a non for profit organization for public health and safety. In regards to wire shelving NSF certified means it is approved for the food and health industry. Some wire shelves are NSF certified for dry environments only. For instance the chrome finish is for dry storage only. Freezer and stainless wire shelves are NSF certified for all environments and are safe for walk in coolers and freezers. This is one of the most common misconceptions we have found with wire shelving. If you intend on put wire shelves in a freezer or cooler the chrome is not recommended.
Question: Are these exact measurements? Yes these are exact measurements. At least for our stuff. We can’t speak of others.
In regards to the 800lbs per shelf this doesn’t mean you can throw 10 shelves on a unit and have a wire shelving unit with 8000 lbs on it. You need to know the capacity of the posts. Ours are rated for 3600lbs (Thats evenly distributed of course). Some general rules are look for a nice carbon steel post and a solid one piece posts will typically be stronger than a 2 piece post.
Question? How do the shelves adjust? You come up from underneath the shelf. Give each corner a tap with a rubber mallet or something that is not going to damage your shelf or it’s finish. The trick is to come up evenly with the shelves. Set your clips to the correct height and then lay the shelf down on top.
