In our May issue of Expert Q & A, we’ll dive into a question about using wire shelving for a business or organization from an aesthetic point of view. Our questions comes from Morgan L. out of Newport News, Va:
Question: I am a manager for a small business and absolutely love the look and feel of chrome wire shelving. I love the open feel that a wire shelving unit provides compared to a cabinet or other types of closed shelving units. I want to purchase a chrome shelving unit but I’m not exactly sure how to use it or what to use it for. Do you have any suggestions?
This is a question that has no specific answer and we love that you appreciate wire shelving for it’s look and appearance. We love it too! There are many uses and customization options and depending on the type of business you manage can further help you determine how to best use your shelving unit. Below are 3 of the most popular uses (based on customer feedback) that we recommend:
- Office supplies & organization: The uses for wire shelving in the office are plentiful. We hear of using the shelves to store computer equipment such as printers and towers or keeping office supplies neat and organized. By adding shelving dividers and label holders, organization of important documents is a breeze. You may also use bins or containers to store stationary type items.
- Warehouse/workshop storage: Many of the larger dimension shelving units are purchased for use in warehouses to store a multitude of items. Warehouse storage typically consists of stock or product for the respective business. The item of choice is stationary shelving units vs the mobile units available. Shelving used in a workshop is used to store tools and machinery. To accompany tool and machinery storage, many of our customers purchase heavy duty wire utility carts for quicker and easier transport of regularly used machinery. None-the-less, wire shelving has proven to be a popular choice for use in this industry.
- Commercial/retail use: On the commercial and retail front, storefronts have used either black or chrome wire shelving to display products. Why wire shelving has become a popular choice for this type of application is that it is aesthetically pleasing, typically dust free, and often brighten up a room or space. Also, the open feel of wire shelving opens up space and gives the appearance that the space is larger.
While this is only scratching the surface for the many uses for wire shelving in an office, warehouse or retail store, the possibility and uses are endless.
