Cleaning Tips
- Using paper towels or cloths when cleaning windows tends to leave streaks, dust, or particles behind. Next time, try using a piece of old newspaper to wash the windows. You’ll see far fewer streaks, save a few bucks, and therefore won’t have to clean the window as often.
- Sponges are havens for bacteria and germs. You probably use sponges to clean your drinking glasses, silverware, plates, etc. not to mention your countertops. This spreads germs and bacteria around your kitchen. Try using dish rags as they are not prone to holding bacteria as a sponge does.
- Using baking soda in your refrigerator or freezer will help keep odors at bay. Place a box in both areas and fight the food smell. This is also good to use for those stinky feet in your house. You may also use baking soda for tough soap scum or hard water stains in your bathtub or shower.
- While chatting on the phone clean out 5-10 unwanted things from your purse, junk drawers, or desk.
- Toss out junk mail every day to avoid paper clutter from building up around the house.
- When you are getting dressed in the morning, take an extra couple of minutes to discard or put away any items that may be piling up on your nightstand or dresser
- Keep your cleaning supplies where you need to use them. For example, don’t feel like walking downstairs to get the Windex? Keep a bottle in the bathroom and kitchen. If you have what you need when you spot an area that needs cleaning, you can tidy it up right away and
- Designate bins and hooks for items your family uses every day (i.e. a hook to hang your robe, or a bin to place magazines or newspapers when finished reading)
- Nothing left or “dumped” on the floors – EVER. There is a place for everything, so everything in its place.
- Lastly, have less stuff. It may sound silly but the truth is the less you have, the less time you will spend cleaning and organizing it. I know it’s easier said than done too, but adopting a more minimalistic approach in your home can save you loads of time when it comes to cleaning.
