Industrial wire shelving typically boasts a capacity of 800lbs per maximum shelf. While we support this claim, the truth is a large majority of our sizes can hold more than the stated weight capacity. This will satisfy almost all of our customers but occasionally we get a customer seeking a higher storage capacity.
Use the tip below to raise the weight limit on your industrial wire shelves. If you have any questions contact us. The process is simple and affordable. You can typically pay double for a slight increase in weight capacity, but after reading this, that won’t be necessary anymore!
Increasing The Weight Capacity of Wire Shelves
The process is simple. Add 2 posts the width of your shelf. If necessary we can custom cut the post so it fits to the exact width of your shelf. Once you cut the poles, remove the post cap from the top of your posts and replace them with a bushing and screw in a leveling foot.
Do this for both ends of the post (each post will have bushings on both ends). Place the posts underneath your wire shelf. Strategically place wire shelf posts under the shelf where the stress of your loads may be. If this will be an evenly distributed load, place your posts just like the picture below.
Essentially you are converting a triple trussed shelf into a 5 truss shelf.
Ready to hold the heaviest of loads?
We cant tell you exactly how much extra this can hold because that is dependent upon project execution. However, we are confident this will be more than you need often increasing capacity up to an additional 40%. This is not limited to the chrome finish and should apply to both black, white and freezer wire shelving.
