As we reach into the Q & A grab bag, we pull out a question that asks: Why are chrome wire shelves so durable and able to support so much weight? We will explain why they are durable, some of the materials the shelving components are made with and how they have a relatively high weight capacity for such simple shelving. Our products are manufactured with durability in mind. There are several components which help make our shelving strong, able to withstand lots of abuse as well as last for years & years. That is in part due to the chrome plated finish which handles abuse well and maintains a bright shine.
The trick to supporting high capacity weight loads is to evenly distribute the weight. The truss design and supporting cross members assist in distributing the weight across the shelf and keeps the strain off the welds. Placing all of the load in the center will begin to compromise the shelving and supports. When you add the posts to the equation, you have shelf capacities of up to 1,200 pounds on some products.
The Posts
Omega Products Corp. posts have a carbon steel center which is protected by a nickel plated metal than finally a radiant polished chrome plated finish. When paired with the chrome truss supports on each shelf, these 3 components make each storage unit quite strong and able to handle high weight capacities. They are made with 16 gauge metal which can withstand a heavy load.
The Shelves
Our open design truss shelving offers much to be desired. Each shelf has 6 gauge wire truss which covers all 4 sides of the shelf. The actual shelf is made of 9 gauge wire which is supported by 1/4″ truss supports that are welded to the underside of the shelf. This builds a stronger and supportive system increasing the weight capacity.
That is the easy explanation to why Omega Shelving can support so much weight and why they are as durable as they are. Hopefully this helps explain why we are a leading provider of chrome wire shelving systems for companies across the nation.
