Wall mounted shelving is great for creating extra storage space around the office. We have seen wall mounted shelving units used in many variations including:
- over work bench areas
- IT closets
- waiting areas
- kitchens
- restaurant freezers & refrigerators
- coat closets
What makes shelves mounted on the walls so great is that it allows you to better utilize vertical space, allowing you to use ground space for additional storage.
These shelving units typically carry a maximum weight load of 600 pounds, similar to much of our shelving units. We recommend a maximum load of 250 pounds since this will be mounted to a wall. This can be drastically reduced if some of the following aren’t taken into consideration:
- Drill directly into a stud with the proper length wood screws. Screws that are too short may not reach the stud or get deep enough into the stud to provide maximum support
- Securely anchor the shelf into any other type of wall. There are different types of anchors and screws for concrete or brick walls. Your local hardware store should be able to supply you with what is needed. To get the most weight capacity out of your wall shelving, get sturdy or reputable anchors. This will help you get the maximum weight capacity out of your unit
- If the stock that will be placed on your wall mounted shelving unitis going to be heavy, be sure not to place it over working areas such as desks, waiting areas, etc.
- To get the maximum weight load from these shelves, spread the stock even across the entire shelf. We’ve seen some units that have bowed in the middle because all of the heavy stock was placed over the weakest section of the unit, the middle. Keep the heavier stock closer to the wall mounts
Sometimes, one wall mounted shelf is not enough and you need additional space. For these applications, try the adjustable wall mount shelving unit. These units are great for taking full advantage of that vertical space. There are two types available, End units and Mid units. End Units come packed with two posts and two shelf brackets per shelf. Mid Units come with one post and one double shelf bracket for each tier. You can choose from one of four different post lengths: 14″, 34″, 54″, 63″. More information about adjustable wall mount wire shelving can be found on our website.
We know space can be tight and find that wall mount shelving takes advantage of these tight areas. Going vertical gives you storage space that you didn’t have before.
